How to Connect your Laptop to your HDTV
- If you’re using a laptop, look for the external monitor 15-pin VGA connector which looks like the image on the left.
2. Find the same port on your HDTV. This may be listed on the inputs as a PC or VGA input.
3. Un-mute the volume on your laptop and move it up to the middle of the volume range.
4. Connect a 3.5mm audio cable (mini jack or mini stereo cable) to:
• The headphone jack of your laptop.
• The mini stereo input (usually located next to the PC or VGA input)
If your laptop doesn’t automatically recognize that you’ve connected another monitor:
• Bring up the Display Settings window.
• Go to Start -> Control Panel-> Appearance and Personalization-> Adjust screen resolution or Display Settings
5. Through the Display Settings window:
• Set your HDTV to view the exact same thing on both your laptop and HDTV or to use it as a secondary
monitor by checking the desktop onto this monitor box.
• Set the resolution to match your HDTV (720dpi or 1080dpi).
6. To switch between monitors (applicable in most laptops):
• Holding the Fn key plus an F key that has a monitor symbol on it
7. Expand the media window to full screen to view your content on your HDTV.
How to Connect your PC to your HDTV
Make sure your PC is shut down first before locating and disconnecting the 15-pin VGA connector or 29-pin DVI from the back of your existing monitor which look like the images on the left.
1. Find the VGA connector on your HDTV, which may be listed as a PC or VGA input.
If your monitor cable has a DVI connector on both ends, you’ll need to purchase a DVI to VGA adapter to connect to your HDTV. (Most HDTVs only have a VGA connector)
2. Un-mute the volume on your laptop and move it up to the middle of the volume range.
3. Connect the 3.5mm audio cable to:
• The headphone jack of your laptop.
• The mini stereo input (usually located next to the PC or VGA input)
4. Restart your PC
• It should automatically recognize that a different monitor has been connected and bring up the
Display Settings window.
If your laptop doesn’t automatically recognize that you’ve connected another monitor:
• Bring up the Display Settings window.
• Go to Start -> Control Panel-> Appearance and Personalization-> Adjust screen resolution or Display Settings
5. Through the Display Settings window:
• Set your HDTV to view the exact same thing on both your laptop and HDTV or to use it as a secondary
